How to cook perfect rice with the golden ratio

Cooking rice can be frustrating because we are missing an essential piece of information; the recipes on rice packaging do not scale. In this video, I want to show you the golden ratio for cooking rice perfectly, no matter the amount.

The key to scaling rice perfectly is understanding that when the rice cooks, some water is absorbed, and some evaporated. When we change the amount of rice, the amount of water needs to change accordingly, but the amount of evaporated water remains the same since the cooking time remains the same. For every cup of rice, you need one cup of water, plus around half a cup for evaporation.

Put simply:

1:1 + 0.25-0.5 (depending on your preferences)

I like to use about 1,5 % of the weight of the rice in salt. If all of this sounds like too much math, I got you covered!

I created a rice calculator to get perfect rice every time. It is completely free and with no strings attached!
